Showing support and solidarity for International Women’s Day, choosing only 11 out of the 50 inspirational Women in STEM of 2020, Darshani Persadh (tag) formed part of the selected few from her award-winning #InspiringFifty tribe to impart valuable key points on how she has led in Business with the impact of a pandemic at its peak. Hoping women all over the world will harness a feeling of encouragement and true inspiration in a collective journey towards empowerment.
#ChooseToChallenge being the 2021 theme, STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) has proven too be the catalyst for a Covid-19 world. Enhancing the skills of Women and the #GirlChild has been a rewarding journey for our Co-Founder here at DARJYO.
STEM has been a passion of hers for as long as she can remember, as she went on to further explore an intricate journey through robotics mixed with a little bit of conservation with the National Geographic Educator programme:
3D Bioprinting; Prototyping; Robotics; Biotechnology; Nanotechnology to name just a few.
Pre-Covid our startup DARJYO had teamed up with a mentor program called SynergyLAB at a local Girls’ school to help young ladies achieve academic excellence during their final year in high school (matriculants). The school eventually achieved a 96.73 pass rate which was accelerated by the team of Mentors who offered their insightful time and experience led by a powerful Principal herself. Who could not take advantage of such greatness draping the halls of a Girls’ school filled with determination to Change!!
Educators battle with current day’s curriculum, yet now — with the introduction of a STEM led practice and engagement, there’s nothing more exhilarating than to challenge young minds with the ability to innovate. It’s just a small but essential step towards closing the gap to accelerate the STEM movement which Darshani felt was the game changer for her Startup.
She chose studying Software Engineering at the peak of the millennium, a time heavily stereotyped with “a young woman in a male dominated industry” over the easily drawn out college fillers of free time and social high flyers that failed to challenge her choices off-course. But we call the past what it was and move on from it. She had fire in her soul… and discovered her ability to integrate technology with intent. Being a practical person with logic ruling out every time it was simple for her to engage directly with the fundamentals of STEM empowering her to solve real world problems through this approach.
Solve the world’s problems is not an easy feat... It’s empowering to be able to look at real-world issues and think, “I can solve that!”. Being able to apply her skills to solve nearly any problem she encounters is one of the gifts that being involved in STEM has given her. She found a support system that enabled a structure that can indeed develop the young mind and refine the mature one’s
“Ahead of the 1-year anniversary of quarantines, startups and shutdowns due to Covid-19, women business owners experienced the highs and lows of managing teams, working remotely and caring for loved ones through the pandemic. I, for one felt the impact of life’s silver linings, particular pain points that helped me — help others.
Seek a mentor or an individual that will indeed help you explore the unknown, discover your own talents, build you up and watch you break so that you can build yourself again with the tools you gathered from your relationship that develops who you become for You and the world at large, become one with those who will help you succeed. Having a mentor to support you through hardships and successes is incredibly rewarding. Diversity and Innovation are the best representations of how women all over the world will do things that they would never have thought they could. The support that the STEM community has for one another has been an incredible part of my life and I carry that on my sleeves as I pull up those very sleeves to get back out there and make every day work for Me.” ~ Darshani Persadh.
